IF WE STOP, THE WHOLE WORLD STOPS!
what would happen if women* didn't take their children to school or went grocery shopping and cooked? if no one did the dishes and laundry, ironed the shirts? if no woman* went to work, school or university? if no woman* consoled her partner after a hard day's work and remembered to get the flowers for his mother?
we asked ourselves, how can we paralyse all the invisible or visible, paid or unpaid jobs and activities that women* normally do. our aim is not to organise a "regular" strike of women workers, we want to go beyond this format and extend it to invisible, unpaid, "taken-for-granted" jobs. we are specifically calling for a strike of domestic and care work, a strike of women workers and consumers, and a strike of schoolgirls, and students at all levels of education.
all these different (although closely related) strikes stem from a common thought: we believe that the world does not function without us women*, without our domestic, emotional and care work. care work is rarely seen, even more rarely economically rewarded, and the lion's share of it is done by us. most of us are responsible for caring tasks not only in the workplace and public sphere, but also in our homes. women's* care work; cleaning, cooking, childcare, caring for sick or elderly family members, emotional labour, raising children, grocery shopping - is essential for survival. it enables us to sustain our lives, which is a prerequisite for productive (capitalist) work.
the health, economic and climate crises and wars that have erupted all across our planet are having a devastating impact on our lives. these are complex dynamics that we have to deal with as we face soaring poverty, homelessness, inflation, the impoverishment of public health... we are seeing an increase in violence against lgbtqai+ people, a turning back to the patriarchal family, border controls are being strengthened and all the freedoms we've been fighting for are under attack.
we strike against both productive and care work, for self-determination, for a minimum wage that guarantees us (and our children) a decent living, for the abolition of all forms of exploitation and precarious work, for stable contracts and fixed working hours. we strike against all forms of violence and discrimination in the workplace, and for the protection of female sex workers.
we strike for public welfare, free from all forms of patriarchal violence and sexual, homolesbobitransphobic, ableist and racist discrimination. we reject neoliberal "family" policies that force women and lgbtqia+ people into unpaid care work and support the cuts and privatisation of public services. we strike against all attacks on the self-determination of our bodies and for the right to abortion.
we strike against a school system that sets up future women workers for exploitation (and death) at work and reproduces patriarchal knowledge and oppression. we stand for inclusive schools that offer good sex and emotional education, that are able to transmit transfeminist knowledge, that educate critical thinking and that are free from all forms of precarity and exploitation of women teachers and professors.
we strike because the ongoing climate crisis, caused by a development model based on the capitalist exploitation of land and labour, is accelerating and threatens the very life of the planet. we strike because the consequences of pollution, environmental catastrophes and the profound abuse of nature do not affect everyone equally. we strike because we demand much more than environmental protection, much more than greenwashing by governments and companies, and because we believe that only an eco-transfeminist vision can save us from climate collapse.
we strike against all wars that perpetuate patriarchal violence and its consequences. we support all women* refugees from all wars around the world. we strike against rearmament and the politics of war.
with the transfeminist strike, we seek to make the struggle against patriarchal violence a powerful way of resistance and radical change that dismantles capitalist production and social reproduction, dismantling the algorithms of the system of development and consumption, the tyranny of gender and borders. we want to draw clear and unequivocal lines of opposition to all the axes of oppression that press in on us.
we want to attack all the nerve endings of the system of patriarchal violence that runs through the whole of society; from homes, workplaces, institutions to the courts and the media. the politicisation of
patriarchal violence, so that it becomes a public and no longer just a private issue, restores to the strike the power of an inclusive and revolutionary struggle. we stand with women* in poland, iran, costa rica, kenya... we resist institutionalised patriarchal oppression, we seek to build the collective power of those who do not accept tyranny, poverty and exploitation.
we are aware that the right to strike is a huge, sometimes impossible, challenge for many who work in informal, low-paid, undeclared jobs, who are unable to pay their bills, who are burdened daily inside and outside
their home. that is why we are striking also for all our sisters who are denied this right.
8th of march is an opportunity to stand together for our demand for freedom and self-determination, against patriarchal violence and poverty, discrimination and exploitation. the current system can only work because most of the care work done by women* is invisible and unpaid! SO ON THE 8TH OF MARCH WE WILL NOT DO IT!
the strike can take different forms, but we definitely call for it to be visible - in public space, with a bener and loud! we also invite you to the demonstrations "patriarchy kills" at 4 pm on congress square and "the power is ours - the day is getting shorter for violence" at 8 pm on metelkova. see you on the streets!
ALL ON STRIKE!
